Leeds Sustainability Institute Mission: Statement
Mission Statement: To promote environmental improvements and reduce the impact of the built environment through credible research and collaboration.
The LSI is a centre of research, informed and supported by business leaders, professional associations and community groups addressing the challenges of creating more sustainable places, communities and economies. The built environment, its infrastructure and society must transform so that it is sustainable; however, such change will only be achieved and be effective if research is properly embraced and informed. Through the LSI a wealth of experience and skill is captured; with its networks and partners, the Institute brings a dynamic that has the influence to shape the future.
The LSI provides a hub and a platform from which relationships can be formed and strengthened to address the key sustainability challenges. With research expertise that has been developed over two decades, the research groups have achieved significant recognition. Consultancy and business services of the LSi are making a significant impact; through the established networks, LSI provides a knowledge base that has clear benefit to its partners.
Work undertaken in social policy, low carbon building, materials, green computing, renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure places the LSI in a lead position, shaping the developed and developing world. The LSI field trials and work with communities are having a direct impact on the policy and regulation that will pave the way to a low carbon built environment. Practices developed are being adopted across Europe and impacting on the way we test and monitor buildings to ensure performance. Feedback from the research results in new standards, taking a step closer to the zero carbon and low impact solution. From our already established reputation, the Institute and its partners aim to increase impact creating business, enterprise and research that further strengthens the Institute.
