Tim Robb: Red Kite Security Services

Managing Cultural & Major Events graduate Tim Robb has successfully launched his business RedKite Security Services at the Devon County Show.

Having worked in security and the events industry for several years organising and managing events, Tim realised there was a severe lack of quality, customer focussed security personnel, so this inspired him to take the plunge and start up his own security business. Tim said;

“I have always wanted to run my own business and felt that the support available from the University made this a good time to take the plunge. The days of the security industry being run by thugs and gorillas in suits is ending and a more service based approach to the industry is desperately needed. RedKite Security Services can provide the industry with quality, customer serviced staff.”

RedKite Security Services was formed in 2010 and is based in Leeds, it focuses on providing security advice and highly trained security staff to events from festivals to weddings.

Whilst studying at our University, Tim took advantage of the support services available through Business Start-Up to help get his business off the ground. Tim attended workshops, business advice sessions and received the Proof of Concept grant, which is provided to new businesses to help test the feasibility of their idea. Tim used the £565 grant on web development and promotion, and explains how the support he received helped him turn his idea into reality.

“The support from Business Start-Up has made the setup far easier knowing there is always someone who can answer questions and give advice especially with linking into other businesses and services.

“RedKite is off to a great start this year with several contracts in place and more in the pipeline. The staff lists are being developed and, thanks to the money received from the concept grant, we are marketing the company to a large number of local venues and events companies and hope to expand the business throughout the coming year”.
