Using narratives to address issues of equity and difference in physical education, youth sport and health

Fiona Dowling, Hayley Fitzgerald and Anne Flintoff

This book confronts and illuminates issues of equity and difference through the innovative use of narrative method, telling stories of difference that enable students, academics and professionals alike to engage emotionally and cognitively with the subject.

The book is arranged in three sections.

The first provides an overview of current theory and research in difference and equity in physical education, youth sport and health, together with an introduction to narrative ways of knowing.

The second includes 15 short narratives from many of the worlds leading equity specialists, that bring to life the themes and issues within the subject area. The third section draws on a selection of narratives to offer detailed, practical suggestions for how they might be used in, or inform, teaching sessions.
