Civil Engineering Research Facility (CERF)
Our dedicated engineering test laboratories develop empirical, numerical testing, and design programmes.
In recent years, we have received around £750,000 in research grants from highly regarded UK funding agencies – Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), together with industrial consultancy projects.
Our international research has been aiding work to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). Funding was awarded from the Water Research Fund for Southern Africa (WARFSA) to research on cheap sustainable water and road construction.
One outcome of our work has been a range of African-based postgraduate courses developed in conjunction with the Universities of Malawi and Botswana that focus on sustainable engineering.
