Cultures of Environment, Space and Place

Cultures of Environment, Space and Place

Led by Dr Shane Ewen

The Cultures of Environment, Space and Place strand is interested in the construction, use and representation of the environment over time. We take the environment to refer to natural and man-made landscapes, town, city and countryside, and the multiple spaces and flows that make up the modern world.

More broadly, the strand is concerned with the cultural flows of ideas, resources, capital and media that constitute the contemporary global environmental condition. Current projects include the ways in which 'natural disasters' are produced, consumed and remembered through the media and the arts; as well as the production and exchange of expertise in the history of environmental regulation. Strand members are leading experts in the field.
