Practices of Writing

Practices of Writing

Led by Dr Rachel Connor

The work of ‘Practices of Writing’ focuses on praxis – using the practice of writing as a way of exploring and understanding our communities, our culture and our world.  Members of the strand write poetry, fiction, drama and non-fiction; some are also engaged in creating performance and hybrid and interdisciplinary forms of writing.  Our concerns are both to interrogate what happens in the creative process of writing and to disseminate our work across a variety of audiences.  The strand acts as a focus for exploring the latest developments in our own and others’ creative writing research.

Our aim is to encourage creative collaboration both within and outside the university.  We are committed to making art as accessible as possible.  As part of that commitment, we showcase authors through our regular reading series, in which visiting writers from different genres present their work.  These events are free of charge and are open to the public as well as the wider university community.
