Confirmation of Registration
The Confirmation of Registration is the first milestone in the research student journey and is designed to examine whether the project is appropriate for the level of the award, whether the student is able to deliver the project and whether the necessary facilities are in place.
The Confirmation of Registration is an academic assessment of the project and student.
The supervisory team’s role is to support the student in working towards this milestone and ensure they are aware of the timeframes involved. The supervisory team should also attend the Confirmation of Registration meeting.
Confirmation of Registration review panel meetings will be arranged in Confirmation weeks following each intake of new research students. Dates are arranged in advance and agreed by the Faculty Research Directors. Full-time students must attend their Confirmation of Registration within four months of enrolment. Part-time students must attend within six months of enrolment.
As a research supervisor you must ensure that you and your student are aware of the Confirmation of Registration date and you must support your student in making a suitable submission. Please be aware that word limits may differ depending on the subject and project.
The Confirmation of Registration panel will assess the potential of the research and the student in delivering the project. Please refer to the outcome document that details the areas that the panel will be looking at.
Any requests to change the student’s date from the specified timeframes must be made to the University Research Office via email firstname.lastname@example.org and will need to be approved by the Research Degree Sub Committee.
