Making requests to the University Research Degree Sub Committee

The University Research Degree Sub Committee is the only committee in the University that can make decisions on research students. Faculties have no regulatory control for research students.  The University Research Degree Sub Committee is chaired by Professor Andrew Slade, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Enterprise, and is made up of at least two representatives from each faculty.

Faculty/Service Members
Carnegie Faculty Professor Anne Flintoff
Carnegie Faculty Dr Caroline Bligh
Faculty of Business and Law Dr George Lodorfos
Faculty of Business and Law Dr Niki Kyriakidou
Faculty of Arts Environment and Technology Professor Ian Strange
Faculty of Arts Environment and Technology Professor Ruth Robbins
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences Professor Richard Hogston
Faculty of Health and Social Sciences Professor Steven Robertson
University Research Office Mrs Kathryn Brown
Secretary to the Committee Ms Joanne Burgess

For any changes to a research student’s record a form should be completed to make a request to the Committee.  The form should be fully completed and contain a full explanation of the reasons for the request.

For guidance, supervisors should speak to the University Research Office and/or their faculty’s representative on the Committee to make sure that they are briefed on the request.
