Making requests to the University Research Degree Sub Committee

The University Research Degree Sub Committee is the only committee in the University that can make decisions on research students. Faculties have no regulatory control for research students.  The University Research Degree Sub Committee is chaired by Professor Andrew Slade, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Enterprise, and is made up of at least two representatives from each faculty.

If your students require any changes to their student records a request to committee form (for the appropriate circumstance) must be discussed with your student and signed by all parties prior to submission. The form should be fully completed and contain a full explanation of the reasons for the request.

For examination approval the University Research Degree Sub Committee will discuss the overall experience of the team, whether it has the appropriate subject expertise, and establish its independence from you as supervisors (so that the university can be reassured that the process is robust and fair).  Only when the Research Degree Sub Committee approves the team can arrangements be made for the examination.  Please note that the Committee’s decision is final.
