PhD in Sculpture working with Yorkshire Sculpture International and Leeds Beckett University
Yorkshire Sculpture International (YSI) is a unique partnership project that comprises the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds Art Gallery, The Hepworth Wakefield and Yorkshire Sculpture Park. We are working towards major sculpture exhibitions across the partner institutions and public realm commissions in Leeds and Wakefield taking place from June – October 2019 with a public engagement programme starting in Summer 2018.
We are looking for a suitable candidate who has a good undergraduate degree in the Arts (either a first or 2:1). They should be passionate about sculpture and aware of current debates in contemporary art practice. The candidate will be open to developing their PhD topic in dialogue with Yorkshire Sculpture International and the academic supervisory team at Leeds Beckett University. This will be suitable for a candidate who chooses to complete their PhD by practice or thesis.
The PhD student will contribute to the development of this project working three days a week with the Yorkshire Sculpture International team and the four gallery partners. The other two days will be independent study on their PhD plus academic tutorials with their supervisory team at Leeds Beckett University. This is a fully funded PhD scholarship with an annual tax free stipend for three years of £14,553 per annum.
