We hold a number of events throughout the year for our members.

Our exclusive, members only events have been designed to help you and your company learn about key trends in our industry.

Covering current and future trends, along with other relevant industry talking points, our events are often over-subscribed, so book your place early to avoid disappointment.

The number of organisation spaces allocated at each event varies and will be communicated prior to each event. We will always endeavour to accommodate additional spaces if needed. If additional places are required, please contact us on the details below.

Member Briefing

Join us at our Annual Members Briefing event taking place in London this October.

Location: Prince Philip House, The Royal Academy of Engineering
Date: 15 October 2015

Speakers will be from a wide range of subject area to meet out varying member’s needs. These will include future trends in packaging and retail.

Smart Packaging Tour  - "So you think you know about smart packaging?"

Location: Norrköping, Sweden
Date: June 9 – 10 2015

Whether you are interested in printed electronics, the internet of everything, capacitive coupling (using the body as a conductor), sensors, smart labels, brand protection, interconnectivity of devices, the internet of things or visual displays, then this two day event in Sweden is for you.

Hear from academics at Acreo Research Institute on how they work with industry to develop printable electronics within the Printed Electronics Arena (PEA) as well as gaining insight into long term research and development.

Day one will include presentations from Printed Electronics Arena and Luma Science, both based at the research centre. Industry partners Billerud Korsnas will discuss how they work with PEA, and how they work on innovation within their own organisation. There will also be a speaker from Ericsson* will deliver what promises to be an interesting discussion on capacitive coupling (*tbc).

Draft timings:

Day 1:

  • Start 09:30 at Acreo ICT Research Institute, Norrköping, Sweden
  • End 16:30
  • Evening meal in Norrköping (optional)

Day 2:

  • 09:00 Travel to Linköping (transport provided)
  • 10:00 ThinFilm ASA tour and discussion with experts.
  • 12:30 Close with lunch.

Transport can be arranged to Linköping City Airport from ThinFilm if required (transfer from here to Amsterdam or Copenhagen).

Please note: Transport to Norrköping, and accommodation, is to be arranged by yourselves, however we can advise on nearest accommodation to the venue. Transport to Linköping to view the facilities at ThinFilm will be provided. We can also arrange transport to Linköping Airport at the end of the event on the 10th June, at 13:00 latest (flights from here to Amsterdam and Copenhagen). A restaurant will be booked on the evening of the 9th June. You are not obligated to join us but you would be more than welcome to do so.

Special interest Group Launch - "Shopper of the Future"

Please join us at London ExCel’s Food & Drink Packaging Event, Pro2Pac, where we will be launching our Special Interest Group, ‘Shopper of the Future’.

Hear from Stefan Casey, The Retail Institute and Michael Hughes, Lead Analyst at Canadean.

By attending this launch event, you will be helping to shape the direction of this new Special Interest Group. There is no commitment for you to attend regular meetings.

Tour of National Centre for Printable Electronics

Join us on a tour of the National Centre for Printable Electronics and hear from experts in the field about this cutting edge technology. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight and understanding about printed electronics and how this can be used within your own business to develop in the medium and longer term.

Annual Dinner

Meet the team and network with fellow Retail Institute members at our annual dinner.

Location: Headingley, Leeds

This year’s event will be hosted at The James Graham Building on Wednesday 15th October. Please join us for an opportunity to relax and network amongst peers, university academics and senior staff. Please note, up to three guests from each company will be welcome.

Members Briefing Event

Date: Thursday 16th October 2014
Location: Headingley, Leeds

This year's Briefing Event will take place on Wednesday 16th October 2014, at the scenic James Graham Building at Headingley Campus, Leeds.

Speakers will be from a wide range of subject areas to meet our varying member’s needs. These will include future trends in packaging, retail trends, an interactive app based adhesives session and technology based presentations, amongst others. There will also be the opportunity to meet our PhD students and researchers, and to hear first hand the up to date research being carried out at the university.

The day will be finished with an 'Ask the Expert' Panel which will include speakers from the day and other academics and experts.

Future Trends in Carton Packaging and the Environment

On 30th April 2014, The Retail Institute along with the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE-UK), hosted an event for members visiting the UK’s only carton recycling plant. The plant, owned by Sonoco, is based in Stainland, Halifax.

After the tour of the recycling plant the members listened to presentations from ACE-UK and Stora Enso.
