Christian Lloyd

About Christian Lloyd

Christian Lloyd maintains a diverse practice that spans visual, community and live art. This includes a collaborative visual arts project called Bristow & Lloyd, that playfully examines how we construct our everyday lives through creative writing, typography and letterpress print-making, often working with community or school groups to produce public art, publications and recordings.

He has performed across the UK and Europe as part of a collaborative ‘Dadaist Rockabilly’ band, The Bongoleeros, whose live performances, recordings and film-screening often take place outside traditional art spaces, and explore frictions between comedy and physical threat, excitement and risk.

His solo projects include a variety act that deals with improvised comedic craft skills and escapology, and ongoing painting, drawing and animation projects.

Current Teaching

Currently teaching across BA (Hons) Graphic Arts and Design.

Research Interests

Christian’s current research focuses on his part-time PhD, Less avant garde, more ‘ava go: exploring the role of playfulness within performance, visual and community arts practices, leading to new ways of working and teaching. The aim of this research is to make connections between various aspects of his practice, exploring ideas around comedy, play and improvisation.

He has an ongoing interest in developing flexible forms of pedagogy that help support art and design learners through distance and open learning.
