CERF masonry projects

Masonry

Masonry

This EPSRC-funded project was aimed at developing more cost effective and simpler forms of free-standing masonry cladding on tall frame buildings. A series of 7-storey high experimental masonry panels were locked-in to a concrete frame at the Building Research Establishment Cardington Hangar, near Bedford and the stress/strain behaviour of the composite structure was monitored for a period of two years.

The data obtained from these tests enabled a design methodology for this form of construction to be developed. Details are available on theUK Brick Development Association Ltd website.
