partnerships and our communities

collaborating with our community

Leeds is a thriving, innovative place, full of stories, culture and diversity. We are proud to play our role in this ever-evolving city, and in building a vibrant future for everyone. We strive to help solve society’s problems, through collaboration.

We work with organisations and partners across the city and beyond, exploring how humanities and social sciences contribute to different communities. We also help spark conversations by hosting regional events, leading quality research, and sharing stories. We speak with the communities that need change, not for them. And we build ideas together.

our research in the community

To tell powerful stories and make a change, we need to let everyone speak. We believe in interdisciplinary, collaborative and inclusive research that gives everyone a voice.

Our partnerships with industry and the community are a crucial part of our work. These links allow students and researchers to gain vital experience and insight. And through initiatives such as our Leeds Cultural Conversations events and Annual Politics and International Relations Festival, we give people a platform to explore our pasts and our futures together.

the war on waste

This project makes a connection between Dr Henry Irving’s research on recycling during World War Two and contemporary debates around waste.

The project was a collaboration between Leeds Beckett University, Leeds City Council and Zero Waste Leeds. Students on Applied Humanities subsequently worked on hosting an online event during Leeds Fashion Futures Heritage Week, helping people to reflect on the past and the present in order to build a more sustainable future with Zero Waste Leeds.
