Education and research reflecting engagement with dynamic organisations

We offer education and research which reflects engagement with dynamic organisations in several distinct sectors of the global economy. Our students are award winners within the business sectors to which they aspire and, unsurprisingly, continue to pursue successful careers. Our former students are now leaders at Manchester City Football Club, Radio One, London's Olympia Exhibition venue and Silverstone in the UK, as well as securing roles across the world, including China, Europe, India and the USA.

Whilst the sectors have many small and medium sized businesses, they also include major international players that offer a wide range of professional career opportunities. We seek to represent this range of knowledge in our programmes so that students are equipped to enter graduate career jobs. Our efforts in this respect have been rewarded with industry accolades from the Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) and The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO); both have granted us Centre of Excellence status (uniquely in the case of the latter). The United Nations World Tourism organisation (UNWTO) has also rewarded us with a highly prized quality kite mark for our MSc in Responsible Tourism.

Many of our academics write the source texts to which our students, and those on other similar university programmes elsewhere, refer during their studies. Moreover, they engage in original sector-related research which helped us achieve a ranking of 2nd in the UK for ‘research power’ (a measure of quality and volume) for this area of work (Unit 26) during the most recent official assessment of university research (REF 2014). Academic also staff undertake diverse consultancy, development and advisory projects for distinguished organisations such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).
