Our Courses

We offer a range of flexible Continuing Professional Development courses, access to modules that can be studied on an individual basis, and full degree courses in the areas of Acoustics, Environmental Health and Health and Safety. We are also happy to work with employers to deliver bespoke courses in these areas. A number of our courses can be delivered in the workplace as well as at our city centre campus where we have specialist facilities for acoustics and practical food inspection.

Course Level
Acoustics & Noise Control – Institute of Acoustics (IOA)
This course is suitable for both environmental and health and safety practitioners, as well as for graduates in other disciplines who wish to build a career in acoustic consultancy.

Postgraduate Diploma
Environmental Health – Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)
Acquire the expertise to prepare for a career as an environmental health practitioner by fully analysing the five main intervention areas; housing, food safety, public health, health and safety and environmental protection.

Masters
Safety Health and Environmental Management - Accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
Ideal if you aspire to become, or are currently working as, a health and safety professional wanting to work towards achieving Chartered Safety Practitioner status, and to learn and develop innovative approaches in dealing with legislative challenges when managing health and safety issues.
Degree

CPD Courses

We run a number of CPD courses accredited by the Institute of Acoustics, and can also offer bespoke courses which can carry University Credit at certificate, diploma or degree level.

Certificate in the Management of Occupational Exposure to Hand-Arm Vibration 
Covers: Identification of HAV hazards and assessment of risk, the use of PPE, legislative requirements, measuring the effectiveness of vibration control measures and daily vibration exposure.

Aimed at those who manage environmental noise emissions and at those responsible for enforcing environmental noise standards.

Certificate Competence in Workplace Noise Assessment 
Covers: The 2005 Control of Noise at Work Regulations; sound, and how it affects human beings, and noise measurement and reduction techniques.

Environmental Health PPP and CPD Training Opportunities

At Leeds Beckett University, in conjunction with key partners, we have developed a series of affordable PPP and CPD training opportunities aimed at students, graduates and Registered Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs) to help them make sure your knowledge is up to date.

Each training day will offer six hours CPD and/or the opportunity gain experience to complete one report in the PPP. Training is provided by experts in each area who are working with Leeds Beckett to provide high quality affordable training experiences. Some courses are held at the university campus, others are held on site to maximise authenticity and realism.

Health and Safety Modules

The two modules below are part of our degree course in Health and Safety, but can also be accessed as free-standing modules.

Organisation and Safety Management (20 credits, Level 5 – Diploma Level)
This distance learning module provides a means of acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills without having to commit to being away for a block of time.

Suitable for managers with responsibility for health and safety.
Ergonomics (15 credits, Level 6 – Degree Level)
Ergonomics examines the whole work environment including how work is planned through to the design of work equipment.

Those wanting to understand impacts of work design and how this may adversely affect their workforce.
