  • You will be registered for some Online Learning to do while on the course
  • To ensure courses have sufficient candidates to run, early application for these qualifications is essential

By completing this course and passing the assessment you will gain a YMCA Award - Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training (QCF): YMCA Award (Formerly CYQ) is the UK leading health and fitness specific awarding body with widespread respect within the fitness industry. Employers in the health and fitness industry favour graduates with vocational qualifications which complement their degree studies. By gaining this qualification you will be able to launch or progress your career within the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer. Students with this Qualification will enhance their CV prior to graduating from university. It will make you a more attractive candidate to future employers or enable you to launch your own business as freelance Personal Trainer.

Course Aims/Content

A Personal Trainer’s role includes the design and delivery of exercise programmes for a range of healthy individuals with no contraindications to exercise. Personal Trainers also need to be aware of their professional boundaries with regard to special populations such as young people, disabled people, older people, antenatal and postnatal women.

Your course will cover how to design and implement an exercise programme for individuals, how to ensure the effectiveness of personal exercise programmes, employing appropriate motivational strategies to achieve this utilising a variety of exercises (free weights, machine weights and CV machines) and advanced training protocols. You will be expected to remember your modules from level 4 as the course also requires knowledge of anatomy and physiology, nutrition and fitness assessment.

Course Structure

The learning will take place over 10 full days. You must attend all days to be eligible to take your practical assessment.  Failure to attend the course in full will mean that you are withdrawn from your practical assessment and will be required to attend further training at your own expense prior to taking the assessment

Course Exam/Certificate

Candidates must attend all the sessions on the course at the same venue and pass all elements of assessment to be successful.

All candidate will be required to complete theory learning online in preparation for the two exams on the 10-day practical course.

The assessment has three main components:

  • Two multi-choice exam papers
    • Anatomy and Physiology for exercise and health (60mins)
    • Applying Principles of Nutrition to a physical activity programme (45mins)
  • Two Knowledge Question Worksheets
    • Programming personal training with clients
    • Applying Principles of Nutrition to a physical activity programme
  • Two Case Studies
    • Design of a safe and effective progressive Personal Training programme
    • Applying Principles of Nutrition to a physical activity programme
  • One Summative Observed Practical assessment
    • Delivery of a personal training session (45-60mins)

Course Duration: 10 Days (2 assessment days)

Course Venue: Leeds Beckett City Campus Gym, Leeds LS1 3LE

RE-SIT OPPORTUNITIES

You will have a maximum of three attempts at an assessment.  You will have your initial assessment opportunity and then two further reassessment opportunities which will be charged at the fee rate below.  If you choose to not take a reassessment opportunity, whilst you will not be charged the resit fee, it will class as a failed attempt on your record.  If you are unable to make a reassessment opportunity due to medical reasons then this will be taken into account.  The usual rules apply in respect to acceptable evidence.  

Re-sit fees associated with these course are as follows

Worksheets £30 per unit
Practical £80
