Sports Activators

Sports Activators are students of Leeds Beckett University who have an interest in Sport and Active Lifestyles, and are enthusiastic about developing and promoting sport and its associated experience to other students.

Activators do not need to be part of a sports club, nor do they need to be particularly talented at sport, they just need to be committed and interested in sport and getting our students engaged. They will be interested in career development and enhancing their CV and employability skills.

Activators’ roles will vary, but can include:
- assisting and planning with sports events,
- social media development,
- PR and marketing,
- student presentations and talks,
- project support,
- attending meetings and helping shape the future development of Sport & Active Lifestyles.

In return, Sports Activators receive:
- a £500 honorarium payment at the end of the academic year,
- free sports membership,
- free kit bundle,
- up to £250 towards a CPD course either offered by our Coach Education team,
- free tickets to University sports events throughout the year,
- funded places and travel towards student sports leadership and development events around the country.

What would you like to improve, during your role as Sports Activator?

I would like to develop new sports events and activities for students at the university, so that more students have the opportunity to participate. I would like to see more cohesion between AU sports teams, including fun sports events that bring teams together. Hopefully this will increase the number of teams supporting each other on BUCS Wednesdays.

Testimonials

“Applying for the Sports Activator role in my final year was one of the best decisions I made whilst studying at the University, as it gave me the opportunity to practice the theory I was learning in the classroom and match it to the professional standards in the work place. The experience of the Sports Office team helped enhance my capacity to learn, develop and adapt quickly to various challenging situations through regular guidance and one-to-one support. The experience I gained from the role gave me the platform and experience to go on and get a full time graduate position at Leeds City College as the Sport, Leisure & Outdoor Activity Officer.”
