Work hard and play hard

The club work hard on and off the pitch, developing a very social and welcoming environment for all standards of players. They welcome beginners who want to pick up the game as well as international players currently representing their countries. If you want to enhance your student life, then join the rugby league team when you arrive in Leeds, make new friends and be a part of a fantastic club.

Players will need to provide their own boots and personal safety equipment. All other training items are provided.

Prerequisites

A good foundation of rugby is expected from all players, but the club are committed to develop players at every level of their game.

Training schedule
  • Monday: 7:15am-9am  3G (HC)
  • Tuesday: 5pm-6:30pm – Astro (HC)

Matches take place weekly on a Wednesday, with additional team strength and conditioning sessions through the week.

We have been supporting students to reach their potential through the scheme since 2002. Famous alumni that have benefitted from the scheme include Lucy Bronze, Alistair Brownlee, Alex Yee, Emily Scarratt, Vicky Fleetwood, Laura Weightman and Tom Bosworth.

Leeds Beckett awards a number of sports scholarships to high performing athletes each year who are committed to upholding the values of the university and willing to represent Leeds Beckett in BUCS events. Scholarships are also awarded to those who demonstrate the ability to progress and achieve high levels of success in their chosen sports.

Criteria

As a rugby league player you may be eligible for a scholarship if you meet the following criteria:

  • Championship 1 or 2 player.
  • England / GB Age Group International.

Our 'Clean Sport' commitment

All sporting participants have the right to compete in drug-free sport (Clean Sport). Leeds Beckett University adopts the UK Anti-Doping and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) position that cheating, including doping, is fundamentally contrary to the spirit of sport, undermining the otherwise positive impact it can have on society.

Leeds Beckett University has a free Injury Clinic at our Headingley Campus - giving students the experience they need for massage and injury treatment under supervision from qualified staff (only available during term times.)
