About Alexandra Witte

Alex joined ICRETH in 2014 as a doctoral research student and GTA in Tourism Management. She has completed a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin, as well as an MSc in International Hospitality and Tourism Management at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. 

After working internationally in various managerial positions in the hotel industry, she embarked on her PhD research titled “A Mobile Ethnography of Walking China’s Tea Horse Road”.  In relation to her doctoral studies, she has recently embarked on a project in Yunnan, China, intending to create a touristic walking route on the southern arms of the Tea Horse Route.  She has published two book chapters in collaboration with her first Director of Studies Dr Kevin Hannam based on her doctoral research, titled "Walking online: a netnography of China's emerging hiking communities." and "Theorising Practices of Walking in Tourism".

While engaging in her PhD journey, she is teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate modules related to diverse topics in tourism, ranging from globalisation and tourism development to sustainable tourism, as well as supervising a  range of undergraduate dissertations.
