About Chris Morley
Chris worked with some impressive names in the retail industry including Aldi and IKEA during his time as a brand and marketing manager. He uses this knowledge and experience to give his students insights into retail operations, work-based learning and links with commercial businesses. Chris also runs Hands-On Limited, a consultancy business, and is a trustee of Reading Matters, a children's literacy charity based in Bradford.
Trained as a Pharmacy Technician with Boots, Chris moved to the NHS before University, studying Retail Marketing Management at Manchester Metropolitan University. After graduating Chris held retail operations roles with Aldi and IKEA, area management, business development and marketing and brand management roles in the retail drinks industry with the Greenalls Group and greetings card sector with Greetings Store Group. He then joined marketing and sales promotions agency The Marketing Store.
Chris worked as account and events manager with retail clients including ASDA, Woolworths and Boots and blue-chip brands including Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Walkers Crisps. In 2002 he set up marketing and event management business, Hands-On Limited, with a client list including ASDA, 20th Century Fox and Burger King.
Chris began teaching retail, sales and event management at Leeds Metropolitan University in 2005.
Current teaching responsibilities at undergraduate level include retail operations and marketing management, economics and finance and professional and academic skills development in addition to supervising dissertation.
Chris also has mentoring responsibilities with external clients including JD Wetherspoon, Punch, Spririt and Stars and Bars pub companies on their professional development courses. He has responsibility for Placement students and more generally employer engagement bringing in clients for guest lectures, live student projects, placement and graduate opportunities.
Chris' research interests are around employer engagement with Higher Education.
