About Debbie Smith
Debbie is a lecturer in Applied Sport and Exercise Nutrition. Debbie has developed a successful consultancy portfolio, including nutrition support for Leeds Rhinos, Yorkshire Carnegie and the Amateur Swimming Association. Additionally, Debbie is a National Trainer working on the education team for UK Anti-Doping.
Debbie is currently writing up her PhD investigating the dietary requirements of adolescent rugby players. Prior to enrolling on her PhD, Debbie worked on an NHS funded project as a Health Hub Coordinator, coordinating and delivering weight management services, a Food Co-op, cook and eat demonstrations, exercise classes and health events. Debbie was also a volunteer at London 2012, working in the field of play area with the weightlifting teams.
Working with students on the undergraduate Sport and Exercise Science and Sport Physical Activity and Health courses, Debbie teaches on the following modules:
- Nutrition and Biochemistry
- Nutrition for Health Sport and Exercise
- Professional Practice
- Research Methods
Debbie also works with MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition students, teaching on the Measurement and Evaluation module and mentoring students on the Applied Practice Programme.
Debbie is currently studying a PhD in dietary requirements of adolescent rugby players. She is particularly interested in looking at the adequacy of nutrition intake in relation to training demands, growth and maturation over the rugby league and rugby union seasons.
