About Dr Samantha Holland

Dr Holland is a Research Fellow with an interest in gender, sexualities, body/embodiment, ageing, subcultures and leisure.

Dr Holland's first monograph Alternative Femininities (based on her PhD) is internationally recognised as one of the forerunners of the current interest in women, ageing and subcultures.

Her second monograph about pole dancing classes remains the only academic monograph on the subject.

She is the convener of the Leeds Beckett Gender Network, and is now a member of the editorial board of The Journal of Gender Studies, having previously served on the Executive Committee of the Feminist & Women's Studies Network, and the editorial board of Sociological Research Online.

Sam is a referee and book reviewer for many international peer-reviewed journals; she also reviews bids for the ESRC.

She also supervises final year Undergraduate and Masters level dissertations.
