Katie's conceptual approach to design and interest in experimental materials informs her teaching practice and research interests. She currently lectures in fashion illustration, digital design, visual research and garment development. Katie’s PhD by practice will explore a combination of 17th century stumpwork and 3D printing to create new tactile materials for fashion and alternative seaming techniques.
Katie graduated from The Royal College of Art in 2010 with an MA in printed textiles. Following this she lectured in fashion and textile design at The University of Portsmouth, before moving to Leeds Beckett University as Course Leader for BA Fashion.
In addition to her teaching practice Katie has undertaken collaborative projects with architects, photographers and interior designers, exhibiting work at 100% Design and the International Design Biennial Saint-Etienne, France.
Katie's current teaching centres on design, illustration and Adobe digital software. She teaches Level 4 and Level 6 students and encourages an experimental and innovative approach to design, challenging preconceptions regarding fabrication, silhouette and process.
