About Lyn Farrell

Lyn Farrell is an Online Learning Tutor, working with academic colleagues and students to support the design and delivery of distance learning. Her research interests include IT and education, social media use, academic skills and digital literacy development.

Lyn was an academic skills tutor for IT, working with Skills for Learning at Leeds Beckett for over 12 years. Since moving to the Carnegie School of Education, she has supported students in developing their academic and digital literacy skills as well as advising academic colleagues in building and developing online courses.

She is currently engaged in research on developing academic skills in distance students through synchronous online teaching and the role of the online tutor across the UK.

Research Interests

Lyn is currently involved in developing and evaluating online webinars for synchronous delivery of academic skills to distance learners. She is also working with the Distance Learning Unit on the development of up to date policy for distance learning, to enable good practice within the university. She has a particular interest in the ongoing evolution of the role of the online tutor.
