About M Selim Yavuz
M. Selim Yavuz holds degrees in Computer Science and Engineering, Historical Musicology and Ethnomusicology. He is currently an editorial assistant for Metal Music Studies journal and working towards his doctoral degree in leisure studies focussing on death doom metal music and culture in northern England.
Selim has worked a variety of music styles ranging from 14th century polyphonic vocal music to 21st century art and popular music styles, with special interests in different doom metal styles and cultures, black metal music, theory and culture, and late 16th century English repertoire as well as Elizabethan society. Alongside these, Selim has worked on history of European notation.
He has also worked on early music representations in different 20th century European art music repertoire.
- Composition Techniques
Selim's current research focusses on genealogy of death doom metal music and culture in northern England through musicological and sociological approaches considering leisure spaces, Northernness, and social networks. His research interests include different styles of doom metal, black metal music and culture as well as musicological methodologies in metal music studies.
He is also interested in Renaissance era music in England, history of musical notation and he has done work on Baroque elements in twentieth-century art music.
