About Professor John Sharp
John Sharp is Professor of Education in the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University. John also leads the Centre for Research and Innovation in Childhood, Education and Society (RICHES) and directs all research activity associated with education for the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework (Unit 25).
John teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students across all levels and supervises doctoral candidates on PhD and EdD programmes.
Starting out as a science educator focusing on children's knowledge acquisition and concept development in astronomy, John's current research interests lie in lecturer self-efficacy and student engagement. His work on student engagement has led to the development of new lines of enquiry in the field of academic boredom and its effects across the teaching-learning environment with implications for course design and delivery as well as how students are supported in their studies.
