Academic and Personal Support Jobs, Placements and Opportunities

Plus Icon Accommodation and Residential Services

What we do

Accommodation and Residential Services offers over 4000 bedrooms across a wide range of accommodation within the City. The team offers advice and guidance on choosing and booking accommodation, and handles all room allocations. Residential Officers are based at selected University Halls of Residence and are able to solve many areas of concern that you may have about your accommodation or University life. They will give advice, mediate, deal with emergencies or even just take the time for a chat. They have all been involved in University life in some shape or form and understand the wide variety of issues faced by students. Visit your on-site Residential Team during office hours or get in touch by email.

  • Accommodation Office: Queen Square House G21, Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:00 
  • Residential Officers - Based at Arena Village, Carnegie Village, Kirkstall Brewery, Marsden House, Sugarwell Court, and Woodhouse Flats. Office hours available Monday to Thursday evenings.

Plus Icon Beckett Award

What we do

The Beckett Award is a Students’ Union employability award which allows students to reflect on the skills developed through extracurricular activities e.g. volunteering, societies and develop their ability and confidence to discuss their key competencies to future employers. If completed successfully a formal award will be achieved.

Where and when to find us

We are based at Headingley Campus, Students’ Union in the Campus Central building above the Headingley Bar. Feel free to pop in and have a chat with us. We also work at City Campus, first floor of the Portland Building. It’s best to email Sam Hunter to book an appointment – Sam.Hunter@leedsbeckett.ac.uk and he will arrange to meet at a Campus to suit you.

Plus Icon Disability Advice

What we do

We offer support, information and guidance on disability related matters within our University. Support is available to students with a range of disabilities and long term conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, mental health conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety), long term health conditions (e.g. epilepsy, IBS, diabetes), autism, physical or sensory conditions.

Plus Icon Distance Learning Unit

What we do

The Distance Learning Unit primarily supports your academic course teams in producing your online content. We also manage the online Leeds Beckett Distance Learning Community, and your general distance learning induction information.

What we do

The Library and Student IT Advice team offers advice and support on all library and student IT issues. This includes; passwords, PINS, student email, Wi-Fi, MyBeckett and other learning systems, printing, laptop loans, personal devices and Office 365.

We are available 24/7, 365 days a year by phone or chat (details are on our website). Staff are also available at the Advice Points on the ground floors of both Libraries:08:30 – 19:00 weekdays and 11:00 – 17:00 at weekends during term.

Plus Icon Funding Team

What we do

We liaise with and report back to both Student Finance England and the Student Loans Company to ensure that students receive the payment of their maintenance loans and that the University receives the payment of tuition fee loans via the student loan process.

Plus Icon Graduate Network

What we do

This Students’ Union initiative aims to provide ongoing support to graduates, including a mentoring programme where graduates can provide support and advice to students. The programme will provide yet another route into our alumni community for final year students and all graduates of Leeds Beckett. The Graduate Network gives graduates access to volunteering opportunities, continued SU society membership, mentoring, online guidance and support to access to university services such as our careers service.

Plus Icon Immigration Advice and Compliance

What we do

We provide support and immigration advice for international students and University staff. SIAC are the University's designated immigration advisers and keep up to date with the rapidly changing immigration rules and guidance issued by the Home Office. SIAC ensure that, as a licensed sponsor, Tier 4 duties and responsibilities to both our students and UKVI are met.

Plus Icon Incomes team

What we do

The Incomes Team is responsible for the issuing of invoices and the collection of all invoiced charges and debt recovery by the University. Students can contact our Credit Controllers to discuss our University payment terms (in relation to Tuition and accommodation fees etc). We also have an Incomes Counter Service, who are responsible for receipting and processing University income.

What we do

We welcome and support international students coming to study at the University. We also facilitate study exchanges for incoming and outgoing students. Our Volunteering team organises many overseas volunteering opportunities on a range of projects including teaching, sport development, sea turtle preservation and rainforest conservation plus many more over the summer months.

Plus Icon Job Shop

What we do

Leeds Beckett’s own recruitment agency for placing students and graduates into paid casual work. Hours are varied and flexible and are usually suitable for students to fit around their studies.

You are able to apply to join our Talent Pool in September/October, February, May/June. Apply by telling us about your skill knowledge and experience, and how you would be an asset to our team of “Job shoppers”.

Where and when to find us

A staff member from the Job shop will be on each campus for you to drop into once a week for help and advice, City Campus Tuesdays and Thursdays Headingley. Drop us an email on jobshop@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to find out our locations for that week.

If your application is successful, you will be invited to book an appointment via a web link to attend for interview and registration at either campus.

What we do

The Library supports your studies with 24/7 opening, a variety of study spaces, thousands of resources, access to your modules, assignments and reading lists via MyBeckett and academic skills workshops with Skills for Learning. Our Library and Student IT advice team is your first point of contact for research and referencing skills, borrowing, passwords, email, Wi-Fi, printing, laptop loans, Office 365 and more.  Each course also has its own Academic Librarian to help you find the information you need.

Sheila Silver Library at City Campus and Headingley Library are open 24/7, 365 days a year with staff available at the Advice Points on the ground floors 08:30 – 19:00 weekdays and 11:00 – 17:00 at weekends during term. Library and Student IT advice is also available 24/7 by phone or chat (details on our website).

Plus Icon Money Advice and Bursaries

What we do

The Money Team are based in the Rose Bowl and administer Hardship Funds, Short Term Loans, Bursaries, Scholarships and US/Canadian loans, providing additional financial support for students.

The team also provide pastoral and financial support for Students who are on placement, estranged from their families, Care Leavers & Carers.

What we do

Our Placement teams have a wealth of experience in supporting undergraduate students with work placements and have developed excellent links with companies that are keen to recruit our students. We can help you develop your CV, provide advice on interview techniques and assessment centre hints and tips, as well as one to one appointments to help you find a placement. For students in Health & Social Care and Education, placements are often a compulsory part of your course and your dedicated placement teams will allocate your placements for you.

Plus Icon Prayer spaces and Faith-based support

What we do

Leeds Beckett welcomes students from all faiths and none. We have a lead Chaplain, Revd Melvyn Kelly, who is one of the team which serves Leeds Beckett and the University of Leeds. The Christian Chaplaincy team offers support to students of all faiths and no faith and can signpost to advisers from other faith traditions, if appropriate. Faith Spaces for prayer and quiet contemplation are available at both campuses.

Plus Icon Student and Graduate Futures

What we do

We help students and graduates with everything to do with career planning/decision making, and applying for jobs or further study (including CV and application writing, interview support and use of social media). We offer 1-1 appointments and provide a wide range of careers information and resources.

When and where to find us

Our support is available in The Gateway (City) and at the Student Hub (Headingley). We’re available 9-5, 5 days a week, throughout the year, and for up to 5 years after graduation. You can pop in anytime for an initial chat, or view careers information and book an appointment online.

A huge range of careers information is available, from course-specific careers information and handouts, to online interview simulators, general careers resources covering topics such as CVs, Interviews, Assessment Centres and use of social media, and industry/sector specific information. You can access all of these via Student Services on MyHub, and find us on social media – search BeckettCareers on Twitter or Facebook.

Plus Icon Student Experience Team

What we do

The Student Experience Team provides the first port of call for students, from Welcome Week onwards. They support students through induction, help them keep on track or find their way back on track. They refer students to other specialist services, as necessary.

When and where to find us

Members of the team are spread across three locations: the Rose Bowl Student Hub, the Headingley Student Hub, The Gateway in the Leslie Silver Building.

They are available to help students from 09:15-18:00 Mondays, 08:30-18:00 Tuesdays-Thursdays, 08:30-17:00 Fridays (Term Time) and 09:15-17:00 Mondays, 08:30-17:00 Tuesdays-Fridays (Non-Term Time)

Plus Icon Students' Union Societies

What we do

The Societies Department supports students who want to lead or join societies. Societies can vary from course based to faith based to student media to political and campaigning and much more. We offer training and support to society leaders to enable them to run society events, improve their employability and also support students to set up new societies.

Where and when to find us

We are based at City Campus on the first floor of Portland in office PD102. Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 10.00-18.00. You can call in and visit us or book an appointment. Simply send an e-mail to Societies@leedsbeckett.ac.uk to book an appointment with some information about the meeting. We can also meet students at Headingley Campus in the SU office by appointment.

What we do

The Student Voice shapes what we do as a Union. We exist to make sure that students’ needs and ideas are supported while they study at Leeds Beckett and Student Voice is about having their say, campaigning on the issues that matter to them and getting their voices heard at all levels of the Students’ Union and University. We do this in a variety of ways including course representation, policy and ideas, Student Council, campaigning and lobbying, elections and more; including research, consultation and training and development opportunities.

What we do

LBSU Volunteering Team have an amazing array of volunteering opportunities ranging from one minute to three years, and we link up with over 100 local charities, so we are sure you will find an opportunity to fit around your commitments. You can volunteer in our campus Thrift Shop, one off events, run your own project, micro volunteering or more regular volunteering in local charities. We also run the Leeds Beckett Award scheme – see more at the link below.

Plus Icon Support group for Student Survivors of Gendered Violence

What we do

The Student Survivors of Gendered Violence support group exists to provide a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space where women and non-binary student victims and survivors of sexual assault or domestic violence can come to speak and offload about their experiences. Facilitated by an experienced facilitator the group gives students space to talk about their experience and discuss staying safe from controlling relationships, domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment and violence.

Plus Icon Wellbeing

What we do

The Student Wellbeing Team is made up of professional and experienced staff and offers a free and confidential service to all students. We provide information, practical support, and therapeutic support to help manage any difficulties you may be experiencing.

We are also part of the Zero Tolerance Support Network, and provide students with support following an incident of sexual violence including providing information on how to report the incident as well as help accessing specialist support.

The Student Wellbeing Team offers appointments at both our City and Headingley campuses. We offer face-to-face and telephone support via booked appointments which are available all year round. Wellbeing

To book an appointment, you must first complete our short online registration form which can be found on the Student Wellbeing Team webpage.

Once you have completed this form, a member of the team will contact you (usually within 2 working days of submitting the form) and book you in for an appointment.
