Jessica Porter (BA Honours Events Management, 2010)

Since graduating from Leeds Met in 2010, Jessica has relocated to Australia, where she is currently a sports marketing and public relations agent working as an Account Manager for the Infiniti automotive brand. She travels extensively across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region activating the Infiniti partnership with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, both visiting Formula One races and maintaining client relationships across her nine APAC Infiniti markets.

Leeds Met made a big impact upon Jessica when she came to visit us for the first time. Having been on her own, the friendliness of the staff and the faculty’s atmosphere helped make her decision to study here. After travelling through the city and experiencing the great atmosphere, she was sure that Leeds was the place for her.

She was equally happy with the course quality: “I wanted to do a course that offered a work placement so that I would graduate with some industry experience. The credentials that the staff in the Events Management department had were fantastic - many had come to teaching from the industry, meaning that they were able to develop their lectures based on their personal experiences as well as on theoretical knowledge.”

Jessica’s experience on the Events Management course at Leeds Met set her up in good stead following graduation. She spent three months working in the UK before moving to Australia in November 2010 on a working holiday: “Initially, I went to try and make some contacts within the Formula One and motorsports industries. I secured some work with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to work over the 2011 season. During that time, I was introduced to my current employer, PRISM, and they offered me a job during the Australian Formula One weekend in 2012.”

Thanks to working in such a high profile field, one of Jessica’s career highlights was the moment her picture appeared on the BBC: “Sebastian Vettel, our Infiniti Director of Performance, was on the podium at the 2013 Korean Grand Prix and I was caught by the cameras when the champagne was sprayed – I work closely with the team at Grand Prix to host Infiniti guests and run media sessions with drivers and management.”

Jessica would highly recommend Leeds Met to others: “The University has a broad range of facilities that provide a complete learning environment. My course was interesting, and much to my surprise, I use many of the theoretical skills I learnt during my day to day role.”
