David Gawthorpe (International Hospitality Business Management, 2003)

David Gawthorpe holds both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Leeds Met, after graduating he joined Sagar Wright as a trainee consultant and is now one of the Directors.

Sagar Wright has recently embarked on a partnership with our University which includes sponsorship of two of our lecture theatres in our award-winning Rose Bowl building and the philanthropic provision of scholarships for high achieving students.

We caught up with David to find out more about him and the partnership: “I made some fantastic and life-long friends during my time at Leeds Met, and I loved the opportunity to learn from a really diverse group of lecturers.

My degrees and placement year gave me an excellent grounding in business principles. They also gave me a great balance between theoretical business models and practical application, essentially providing me an understanding of how businesses function 'in the real world' and the skills necessary to be successful.

One of my greatest achievements since graduating is achieving promotion to Director in under seven years. I've worked hard to achieve my success but I certainly couldn't have achieved this without the personal and professional support from my Managing Director and an environment in which to thrive. I now work closely with all our employees to drive the business forward. Taking fresh graduates, 'career-changes' and those looking for the next step up in their chosen career, assisting them to develop and refine their skills, and then seeing them progress their careers to achieve success as the best headhunters in the UK is hugely satisfying.

We've always had excellent results from Leeds Met alumni. This partnership will give bright, dynamic graduates the opportunity to earn a six figure salary within a couple of years of graduating and will hopefully keep top graduates in the Yorkshire region. Given our ambition to continue increasing our headcount we see the partnership with Leeds Met as key to this growth.”
