Rebecca Snowden - CertHE Biomedical Science, 2010

Digital Marketing Executive, Furniture Choice

Rebecca graduated in 2010 with a Certificate of Higher Education in Biomedical Science from Leeds Beckett University, and now enjoys an exciting career in digital marketing.

Whilst Rebecca did not study marketing at Leeds Beckett, she attributes a lot of her current success to her qualification in Biomedical Science.

“The course involved a lot of in-depth data analysis which is a key part of my job. I learned to work quickly and accurately, and with different types of people. We were also warned how easily data can be misrepresented, which is something I’ve kept in mind ever since.”

Whilst studying, Rebecca worked part-time in the furniture industry. This led her to joining an online furniture retailer as a member of the customer service team when she graduated.

“When I joined the company in 2011 the digital landscape in the sector was very different to what it is now. Social media was only beginning to gain popularity with businesses as a marketing tool. I could see the potential for growth in this area, so took on the task of running our platforms to create a strong social presence.

“This quickly became a much bigger task and began to play a large part of our marketing strategy. As a result I began to learn about digital marketing as a whole, both at work and in my own time. With the digital sector constantly evolving it is a really exciting time to be part of it.”

Rebecca’s role consists of assisting with the planning and implementation of marketing campaigns, and the overall SEO and earned media strategy. She runs all of the social media platforms; keeping them updated, communicating with customers, and running display advertising campaigns.

To current students and recent graduates Rebecca would recommend “Always take the opportunity to try new things or learn new skills. Even if they aren’t related to what you’re studying, you never know when you might use them. Leeds Beckett has a lot to offer and it’s up to you to take advantage.”
