Ahmad Al Khatib, BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences
Studying Biomedical Sciences has been a huge step for me to achieve my dream. My aim was to get into medicine, and Biomedical Sciences allowed me to do that, and I knew I would really enjoy the course.
What course are you studying, and why?
My aim is to work in medicine. I chose to study Biomedical Sciences as it has been a huge first step towards me achieving my goal. I chose this course in particular because I knew I would enjoy it.
Can you tell us a bit about your background?
As a son of two refugees who do not speak English it has been a struggle. I am the only English speaker and took care of my family of seven, and this responsibility had an impact. I had to drop out of my A levels at the beginning of my second year, so I could work to support them.
“I soon realised I would be able to progress further with better qualifications, so went back into studying. I was overjoyed when I was accepted into Leeds Beckett, and felt like the university was opening its arms to me.”
What does the scholarship mean to you?
The scholarship has relieved some financial pressures and given me more opportunities while I’m studying. I can now focus more on my course and achieve the best results possible.
