I work alongside my studies, but it’s still difficult to financially support myself with bills going out, commuting costs and food costs. You don’t realise how much you have to pay out and it can become a bit of a struggle.
Studying Business & Management
Demi-Louise is a BA (Hons) Business & Management student who was awarded the Professor Bligh Scholarship in 2018.
She came to Leeds Beckett as she knew it would open doors for her in the future. Alongside her studies she supports herself with a part-time job. After university she hopes to be in a managerial role and implementing the strategies and theories that she has learnt during her course.
Demi-Louise said: “I think I’m someone who can very much benefit from a mentor, so I think it will be useful to have Professor Bligh to guide me and help me express myself a little bit more in different ways.
“I work alongside my studies, but it’s still difficult to financially support myself with bills going out, commuting costs and food costs. You don’t realise how much you have to pay out and it can become a bit of a struggle.”
Professor Bligh selected Demi-Louise as the recipient of his scholar, saying: “Demi demonstrated she has a very broad understanding of her field of study, and is capable of relating disparate knowledge in new and creative ways. I was very impressed by her perception of the social dynamics in the workplace, using her own experience. She had been promoted in her part-time work to instruct all employees, old and young, about the management of new stock. This shows considerable maturity and understanding of how people interact.
“I see it as important that applicants want to use the money to further support their studies. Demi wants to buy a light weight laptop to study whether at university, home or elsewhere.
“Above all, Demi has a very lively mind so I know she will not only be responsive to ideas in our relationship but take the lead with her own so that it is a true partnership.”
