Studying Filmmaking

“When I was 11, my Dad showed me his favourite film. At such a young age, the film made a big impact in shaping me into the person I am snow. It helped form many of the beliefs and values that I hold today.

“Realising how film can impact people, I knew that I wanted to become a part of the industry and to work in this medium in whatever way I could. I applied to the Northern Film School as I knew of someone who had already studied film there. I liked how practical the course was and its method of narrowing down specialisms to becoming an expert in a specific of the filmmaking process.

“I come from a low income background, which really puts a strain on university life. I have to take on a lot of hours at my part time job, which means less time for studying.

“I applied for the scholarship, not only because of the financial support it would give me, but also for the mentoring that I would receive from Professor Bligh. He has already helped me become more confident in my dissertation idea and helped me realised new ideas and topics to further my course knowledge.

“The money will also allow me to have the same opportunities as other students and therefore, will help me to improve my studies.”
