Studying Accounting & Finance

Umar came to university for a sense of achievement, he felt that he wasn't always the brightest in school so he wanted to do this to prove something to himself. His goal is to be a chartered accountant and his degree gives him nine exemptions, with a further eighteen professional body exams required to become a chartered accountant. Other local universities offered similar courses but Umar previously worked in Leeds so chose here as the city was familiar.

He commutes to university from Keighley to keep his costs down, and uses the time on the train to do some of his work.

Five years after graduating Umar still sees himself as doing his ACCA qualification and working, and potentially looking to open his own accounting firm. He hopes to still be living and working in Leeds as the city feels like home.
