Joe Milner (Events Management, 2010)

Joe Milner (Events Management, 2010)

As part of his undergraduate degree Joe took a placement which enabled him to work with Nova International, the sports events company set up by former Olympic medallist Brendan Foster.

Whilst on his placement Joe worked on the Great Student Run and since graduating has been working for Nova as an Events Assistant, enabling him to gain a greater understanding of sports events and put his theoretical skills into practice. Within two years he was promoted to Events Manager, and now has three events of his own to manage, along with working on other events in various roles.

Joe says his career highlight to date was: “working on the National Lottery Olympic Park Run, which was the first event to take place within the Olympic Stadium as well as taking in the venues of the Olympic Park. My role was to manage supplier logistics and making sure everyone could get on to the park as well as having the correct accreditation to deliver the event. This was a challenging event to deliver with a lot of unknowns and things changing all the time as the park still under construction but the day was fantastic, and all runners enjoyed the day.”

Through the partnerships at Leeds Beckett Joe was able to work on a range of events including Leeds Festival, the IIFA awards in Bangkok, and with Nova International on the Great Student Run.

He says his favourite memory of university would be graduation and knowing that once he had walked across the stage it was all done; he had finished in education and I could go out there and start working in events.
