Kerry Nicholls (Dietetics, 2011)

After doing some initial work experience Kerry realised what her next step in her life was - completing a postgraduate diploma at our university and she hasn't looked back since.

I did an undergraduate degree doing food studies and nutrition. I then worked as a ward based nutrition assistant on a hospital ward – I knew I wanted to work with people but I didn't know exactly what I wanted to do. I thought this job would give me a good idea of what to do next and whilst working I got to know what the job of a dietitian was, I decided to apply for the Postgraduate Dipolma. I chose Leeds Met for location and it's good reputation.

It's a two year course, made up of three placements, so six months of placements altogether and then different modules covering different things, so although it is a lot of practical it’s also a lot of theory as well so you get a good grounding before you go out onto your placements and the placements are what I really enjoyed.

My job now is at Pinderfields and I spend half my time doing GP outreach clinics which is fast paced to then the other half of the time I spend on the wards at Pinderfields doing mostly elderly, orthopaedic wards.
