Priyantha Udagedera (Contemporary Fine Art Practice, 2007)

Priyantha Udagedera (Contemporary Fine Art Practice, 2007)

After completing an MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice Priyantha continued his studies; working towards his PhD and also continuing to be an exhibiting artist.

Priyantha says: “My Masters was based on painting and making art which is different from my PhD which is focused on the critically analyse of the work of others and producing your own narratives based on theoretical backgrounds.”

He found our University a supportive environment for his MA which is why he decided to stay here for his PhD; saying: “It isn't just about the modules you undertake but also the opportunities that you have at Leeds Met. You can get involved in various projects which are really helpful in building confidence, meeting other artists and making contact with organisations which really help you after university. At the moment I've got good connections with the arts scene in Leeds and the surrounding cities and London.”

He went on to say: “The great thing about Leeds Met is the support you get from the staff which was really important to me as I had come to the UK from Sri Lanka. The tutors really understood me and were very supportive – I don't think it's possible to get that kind of support from any other place.”
