mentoring

Make a real difference to a student's future

By becoming a Leeds Beckett mentor you the opportunity to make a real difference to a student interested in your industry or sector. Students can gain real-life insights into your profession which help them make focused career decisions and get a head start.

Our alumni make the best mentors for our students as they’re able to share their unique experiences of our university, and therefore, how someone looking to follow in their footsteps can make the most of the opportunities we offer them.

Mentoring our students Graduate Hayley Hayes discusses her experence as an LBU mentor.

I try to release creativity from independently minded students and enhance their learning experience. Hopefully, the students who receive the scholarship are intellectually richer with it than without it.

Mentoring and financial support

Professor Donald Bligh (Cert Ed, Teacher Training, 1958), has been providing both financial support and mentoring to Leeds Beckett students since 2012.

He believes that universities are integral for not only teaching knowledge, but also creating new knowledge and new interpretations of old knowledge. This can be achieved using imagination and by testing ideas, informed by research and intellectual criticism.

Professor Bligh taught me a lot. I learnt to think in different ways which I could use not just in university, but in all aspects of my life. I applied the methods of thinking encouraged by Professor Bligh in my dissertation and other university work. I feel very privileged to receive this award.
