It’s a cliché but everyone is in the same boat, so climb aboard and let’s look at what you can expect on your first day.
Now that you’re all packed up and ready to set off it’s just time for one last check and it’s time to start packing the car. Our top tip, don’t forget the sweets for the car journey!
Arriving on site
When you arrive our friendly Accommodation Team will be the first people you see, so if you have any questions then fear not, they’re there to make it a smooth day.
Collect your keys
Head to your key collection point, you’ll get your keys as well as some useful information and offers in a welcome pack (something to look over when you get the kettle on).
Walk this way
Got your keys? Then follow our Accommodation Team to your room (they’ll even give you a hand with your boxes and bags with a little help from our University sports teams!)
Fill out an arrival inspection form
Before you start unpacking it’s important to fill out your arrival inspection form, it’s a way for you to make any notes of anything missing or any damage you’ve noticed. Our team will then work on putting anything right you’ve reported.
Now it’s time to unpack
First things first, before heading out to explore it is time to unpack and get your room set up how you like it. It’s going to take time to get it just right, but make a start and focus on getting out what’s essential to you.
Stock up on supplies
Once you’ve made a start on the unpacking and you’re happy with your room, it’s a good idea to grab some supplies from your nearest supermarket. Check out our ‘Find out more about your halls’ blogs to see what’s nearby. You may even have some time to grab a quick bite and a drink with your family before they head off.
Break out the biscuits
An essential for your shopping list and a great way to meet your flatmates. Once you’ve unpacked and got your supplies you’ll probably want to meet your flatmates properly, a hello in the hallway doesn’t quite cut it so get the kettle on and get to know each other.
After all that excitement your attention will no doubt turn to the evening’s activities. Chat to your flatmates, check out your halls Facebook page and decide what you fancy. You might want to stay in and relax with your flatmates, head out to an event or explore the City. Whatever it is, we’re sure it will be fun.
It can take some time to adjust to your new surroundings, but like we said at the start, everyone is in it together so you’ll find all your flatmates will be keen to socialise. If you have any worries or concerns then don’t worry, our fantastic Residential Officers are on hand to offer advice and help.
