Leeds Beckett Alumna receives OBE for NHS Contribution

Leeds School of Social Sciences alumna Sarah Wallace has been recognised in the Queen's 2021 New Year Honours list for her services towards the NHS. 

Sarah, a former masters student of Professional Studies in Speech and Language Therapy, graduated in 1996.  She is currently a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.    

Sarah was awarded an OBE in recognition of her work as an internationally recognised leader and senior clinician within the specialised area of dysphagia and critical care in speech and language therapy. In addition, her vital services and response to the COVID-19 pandemic were also celebrated.  As a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy COVID-19 advisory group, she has played an instrumental role in developing key guidance.   

The New Year Honours list seeks to mark the extraordinary services and achievements of people throughout the UK. Sarah was among six other Leeds Beckett alumni to receive the honour. Since receiving her award, she is continuing to provide important speech and language therapy services during the pandemic.
