The workshop introduced data, data analysis and analytics through interactive problem-solving; using data to inform our decisions and add insight. We then showed students how they could be tricked with data, by the way it is presented or amended. Lastly, we looked visualisation and how powerful this kind of communication is.
We made a special effort to introduce Data Science to students studying social science and creative subjects as well as computing and maths students, as data is an area that can be applied to a whole range of different areas. Roundhay were keen to promote this as well and we had around 200 students attending the workshop alongside their teaching and career staff.
We hope to deliver many more events over the next year, as Data Science is a relatively new subject area and schools are keen to learn more. If you are someone who likes investigating and solving problems and enjoys using data to understand more or challenge perceptions, Data Science is a great course option to explore.
