The pandemic has had a huge impact on the events, tourism and hospitality industries. Many hospitality venues are still unable to open. It’s illegal to travel abroad for holidays. And events are still severely restricted. However, one thing which has been evident is the resilience and adaptability of many organisations. This has been demonstrated by inspiring stories our Alumni have shared on how they have changed their business practices to succeed and, in some cases, thrive.

Throughout the pandemic the School of Events, Tourism & Hospitality Management have been supporting these sectors of the economy and its alumni network across a range of activity.

Students supported the #We Make Events ‘Red Alert – stand as one’ campaign. They worked with venues across Yorkshire to light up their buildings red to raise awareness of the impact the pandemic was having on venues.

In October 2020 we gave 25 alumni free places on the online PG Certificate in Events Management course starting this January. This provided a focus during lockdown and helped our alumni to upskill and be prepared for when the industry re-opens its doors.

Our academic and research staff have been called upon to participate in various national and international webinars.  Using their knowledge, research and expertise they are contributing to the economic recovery of the industry, exploring how we can use what we have learned throughout the pandemic to bounce back bigger and better.
