Animations & Interaction

The Leeds Beckett University website occasionally uses animations to page elements and animated gifs to add impact to pages. If you wish to stop them from playing for accessibility purposes or for personal preference then please see the guidance below. Please note that browsers sometimes change how they operate, so please refer to your browser help files to find their latest information.
How do I turn off animations?

Chrome

Chrome users will need to use browser extensions. Animation Policy from Google will help you set your own preferences.

Microsoft Edge

There is currently no way to disable animations within Microsoft Edge. Users of Edge (Chromium) browser can install the Chrome extensions above and use them.

Internet Explorer

To stop animations on a single page you can just press the 'Esc' key. This will stop the animation on that page. If you wish to restart the animations you need to refresh the page. To permanently disable the playing of animated GIF images, open Internet Options > Advanced tab. Under the Multimedia section, uncheck the Play animations in webpage check-box, click Apply and Exit and then restart your computer.

Firefox

Type about:config in Firefox address bar and hit Enter to open Settings. Search for the image.animation_mode flag and change its value from Normal to None. Once you restart Firefox this will disable animations.

This year’s Leeds Varsity aims to be bigger and better than ever, with more than 60 Leeds Beckett sports teams taking on their University of Leeds rivals between Wednesday 29 April and Wednesday 4 May.

The last Leeds Varsity event took place in October 2019 and saw Leeds Beckett University claim our 15^th Leeds Varsity title. Your university has won all-but-one Leeds Varsity events since the competition first took place in 2004, and this year’s Leeds Beckett sports stars are aiming to be crowned champions once again.

This year more than ever, we need your support if we are going to take back our title. Wear your Leeds Beckett colours, show your pride, and read below which games you need to watch at Leeds Varsity 2022.

Netball opener

Monday 2 May

Tip-off 19:00

Leeds Beckett Netball clash against their University of Leeds rivals at Leeds Beckett University’s Sports Arena at Headingley Campus on Monday 2 May.

The game, which has traditionally been the curtain raiser ahead of the Leeds Varsity Festival alongside hockey, will start at 19:00. As well as the game, there will be entertainment available including music, bar and half-time competitions.

Tickets cost £5 plus VAT and are available to buy now from Eventbrite. You will not be allowed to enter the venue without a ticket.

Rugby League

Friday 29 April
Headingley Stadium
Kick-off 17:45

Leeds Beckett’s men’s rugby league team take on the University of Leeds at Headingley Stadium on Friday 29 April. The Leeds Varsity fixture will take place before Leeds Rhinos’ Super League game against Hull Kingston Rover.

The Leeds Varsity game kicks off at 17:45 and the Rhinos match starts from 20:00.

After party at Space
For a limited time, you can claim a free after party wristband when purchasing your rugby league matchday ticket. The official after party, brought to you by Voodoo Events, will be held at Space in Leeds City Centre. To claim your wristband, visit the Carnegie Sports Centre at Headingley Campus and show your rugby league ticket to a member of the Sports Office staff.

Rugby Union Finale

Wednesday 4 May
Headingley Stadium

The Women’s Finale between Leeds Beckett and the University of Leeds will kick-off at 17-15, while the men’s game will kick-off at 19:15 to bring the curtain down on Leeds Varsity 2022.

Matchday tickets for the Rugby Finale cost £15 and gives you access to both the men’s and women’s games. You can buy matchday tickets online from the Leeds Rhinos website. Leeds Beckett fans will be based inside the famous South Stand, which is home to the Leeds Rhinos’ most vocal fans!

Leeds Varsity Festival

The traditional Leeds Varsity Festival will take place on the final day of Wednesday 4 May. Fixtures will be released soon but you can guarantee a full day of action featuring the majority of the university’s sports teams on campus and around the city.
