Reuse through Warpit An update
For almost six months now, our university's Sustainability Team has been using the warpit reuse network.
During this period, we have seen considerable savings in a number of areas. Here are the following:
as of 27th June 2018
Warpit is a reuse network, dubbed the 'internal ebay', where items deemed not fit-for-purpose in Leeds Beckett are posted so staff can claim them and re-use or up-cycle them at home. If staff don't claim them, them they will be donated to charities or other organisations.
You might think, 'what if they are broken?' The reality is that only items of satisfactory condition will be allowed on warpit. You will be surprised at the amount of things which still have some life in them and are thrown away. Available to Leeds Beckett staff only, you can register here. Claiming any item is FREE.
Calling all Green Impact teams. Warpit is now included in your Green Impact toolkit. Please encourage everyone in your department to register and upload redundant items.
We have had quite a few claims on the system so far, with chairs and tables having proved to be the most influential contributor to our savings. Last month, George from Security claimed 30 chairs and 17 tables which he donated to his church. This is the sort of contribution we want to make in society and we as a university should be proud of it.
Warpit is a win-win for all parties. Therefore, join the community. If you have questions, email us via sustainability@leedsbeckett.ac.uk. or call Brian on 0113 81 27801.
Don't bin it, warpit.
