Carnegie International Soccer Academy
What the coaching involves
Our partnership with Leeds United Football Club and DFK International Sports Ltd – a team of elite soccer coaches, all former professionals – is a unique opportunity for you to continue your development as a soccer player while also studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification at our university.
Players on the coaching programme with the academy, will have the opportunity to test themselves against development squads of professional teams from the English Premier League and Football League.
Our coaching team
Our highly qualified team of soccer coaches – which includes the scorer of the first ever Premier League goal, Brian Deane – will deliver coaching to professional standards with a focus on your technical development and improved conditioning.
Coaching will be delivered to the highest professional standards with all our lead coaching team being qualified to UEFA Pro Licence or A Licence levels. They will be supported by other Pro and A Licence holders and some UEFA B Licence holders. All our coaches have had significant professional playing careers at an elite level.
Typical week in the Soccer Academy
Your weekly coaching programme will usually consist of 8 hours of training sessions, more than 2 hours of conditioning, and two competitive 90 minute matches. The coaching programme runs from August to May, a total of 40 weeks.
Activities will include match preparation (technical and tactical) and match analysis, gym training, fitness testing, swimming (recovery sessions) and injury prevention.
The coaching programme will not have an impact on your academic study. As a tier 4 student, it is your responsibility to attend all academic activity.
What happens between May and August
There is an out-of-season Fitness Camp in July for any players that would like to return to the Academy early for pre-season. These camps will be voluntary to attend and will be run in line with the out of season programme given to each player.
Will progress reports be provided?
Yes. Quarterly meetings and reports will be provided to each player, which will discuss your technical, tactical, physical and social progress.
Will there be an opportunity to play in matches?
Of course. There will be a 10 game minimum commitment to playing games and games will be played against Professional and Semi- Professional teams.
When will the coaching sessions be delivered and where?
Coaching sessions will be delivered during the week at Leeds Beckett University’s Headingley Campus.
