Sport & Exercise Science

Sport & Exercise Science is the application of scientific principles relating to Biomechanics, Nutrition, Physiology and Psychology, or through an interdisciplinary approach, to address real-world issues in sports performance and exercise participation.

At Leeds Beckett University you will study in our specialist laboratories and sports facilities and be supported by our internationally recognised staff members. Staff will draw on their significant experience in a range of research and applied sport environments, to help you learn how to enhance performance in athletes, or to improve the health and wellbeing of the general population.

Our BSc Sport & Exercise Science programme is endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, who are the professional body overseeing the subject in the UK.

The undergraduate programmes in Sport & Exercise Science, Science of Sport Performance and Sport & Exercise Nutrition are developed around the core scientific principles of sport and exercise science and informed by a strong ethos of research methods. The course structure and delivery will prepare you to work with diverse social groups in a variety of settings, as well as support your development towards further postgraduate study.

Our Science of Sport Performance programme will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the science of sport to help develop high performance athletes. Whilst our Sport & Exercise Nutrition programme will see you study the science of food and develop your understanding of how nutritional composition and diet can influence sport and exercise performance.

Refining your understanding of the key disciplines of nutrition, physiology and psychology, your course will also enable you to put your learning into practice through a placement in a setting of your choosing.

Our undergraduate degree in Sport & Exercise Science is available with an integrated foundation year. If you don't have the required UCAS points to be able to secure a place on one of our sports degree programmes, the foundation year will prepare you for academic life at our University.
