Leeds Rhinos match, player being tackled in the pouring rain

Building our sporting community

People & Partnerships

We have a long tradition of working with local, regional and international partners to add value to the work we do and enhance the university sport experience. Our heritage, built on the values and principles of the Carnegie College of Physical Training in 1933, alongside the quality of our staff and students mean we are able to build strong and productive relationships with major sporting organisations including Leeds United, Yorkshire County Cricket and Leeds Rhinos Rugby League. Our integration within these professional sports clubs allows us to include high quality, practical, experiences in our offer, including bringing together exceptional athletes, shared training facilities, work placements and coaching and research expertise.

Our staff consistently deliver an innovative, research-led curriculum across all levels. We have a broad range of expertise, which allows us to take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching. Many of our academics are involved in research, and our staff were ranked second nationally in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework when it came to research quality and the number of contributing staff.
