Placement: Club Doncaster Foundation

Course: BA (Hons) Sport Development
Level: 5
About the Placement:

At Club Doncaster Foundation I was able to get involved in a wide variety of things. Working alongside Kelly, a Sport Development Officer, I was largely involved in the schools programme.
On the schools programme I attended several sessions Club Doncaster Foundation deliver in schools each week, providing them with lunchtime clubs; PE Lessons; After School Clubs; and CPD sessions for teachers. Alongside this when working in the office; I was in charge of research, organisation and planning for the Expect Summer 6 week programme delivered in Summer 2019.

Expect Summer Programme is a programme delivered for children that come from deprived areas, and because of that receive free school meals. This programme is put on for them so that for the duration of their summer holidays, when they are not at school, they are still able to receive food.
So throughout my time at Club Doncaster Foundation, I have been in charge of organising the schedule for the 6 week programme; themes for the day, what activities will be provided, external organisations that could come in and deliver, courses and workshops that could be provided, etc…

Also I have been helping Kelly with the organisation leading up to the delivery of the EFL Kids Cup, where students from all the schools in the area compete in a football tournament - this year saw 40 teams from 36  schools involved in the tournament.
The build up to this tournament required me to help with the organisation of jobs for the event; timings of the event; fixtures; live draw for the fixtures; equipment for the day, etc… where at the end of the day one team is deemed to winners and receive a EFL Kids Cup Trophy to take place to their school.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Club Doncaster Foundation; it is such a welcoming, friendly and enjoyable organisation to work for. I have specifically enjoyed the programmes and projects I have been fortunate to work on, and the people that I have met and worked with throughout.
As a keen footballer myself, coming to work in a football club was really exciting for me and it has definitely lived up to my expectations. Most importantly I feel I have learnt a lot on my placement about myself and about the Sport Development Officer role, being able to work in the office and see it from this perspective have helped me achieve this.
I would most definitely snap up the opportunity of work placement again, it’s really helped me to development my employability skills and understand the skills that I already hold.”
