Carnegie School of Sport partnership

UEFA

We have been working on a range of projects with European football governing body UEFA since 2013 and have recently launched a campaign expected to last a further two years.

UEFA

Our work together sees us collaborate with UEFA to review and improve two of its highly respected junior football programmes: Football in Schools and Playmakers. We have also been working with the Association to customise Leeds Beckett’s ICOACHKIDS e-learning platform, which now provides free online courses for youth football coaches across Europe.

Impact of our partnership

  1. Football in Schools programme

The Football in Schools programme aims to enhance the quality and quantity of school-based football activities, while the Playmakers project is working to increase the number of girls taking up football, using innovative approaches such as a ground-breaking partnership with Disney.

Academics from the university work closely with representatives from UEFA and its 55 member national football associations to co-ordinate and conduct evaluations of these programmes.

The findings from this work are used to propose improvements and modifications to the delivery of both projects, helping the programmes to be the best that they can be, as well as encouraging more young people to take up the sport.

  2.  ICOAHCKIDS

Our collaboration on the ICOAHCKIDS platform has involved improving navigation for UEFA coaches accessing the website, as well as enhancing its video, activity, study guide and quiz content. The platform helps UEFA promote ICOACHKIDS’ ethos of providing safe environments for children worldwide to learn, play and enjoy football in.

The next phase of the UEFA-ICOACHKIDS programme will see all content across the platform translated into French, Spanish, German and Russian, allowing UEFA to further expand its provision of free, educational resources to coaches across the world.
