Whole Systems Approach to Obesity Programme

LBU have been commissioned by PHE in partnership with LGA and DsPH to co-produce, implement and evaluate a whole systems approach for Local authorities (LA’S). The team has worked closely with 11 LA’s within England and wider stakeholders is currently finalising the draft resource and planning a dissemination strategy

Professor Paul Gately was a member of the Working Group and visited the Amsterdam Healthy Weight Programme to share learning about whole systems approaches Obesity.

The Obesity All Party Parliamentary Group on Obesity

Professor Sahota was invited to present evidence on obesity services at the enquiry at Portcullis House Westminster on 6th March 2018. Professor Sahota and Dr Stuart Flint have been consulted in the development of a report, which launched on the 15th May 2018. Both Professor Sahota and Dr Stuart Flint were part of a panel discussion on the 15th May 2018. A link to the report can be found below:

The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology March 2018 issue

Dr Stuart Flint, Colleagues from LBU and key UK Obesity organisations published correspondence on “Weight Stigma and Discrimination: A call to the media” urging media to consider the impact of weight stigma and discrimination when reporting on obesity.

The classification of obesity as a disease

Professor Pinki Sahota is a member of the national Obesity Recognition working group and contributed to the development of a position paper, which was presented at a summit at BMA House, London on 5th June 2018 with the aim of generating a consensus amongst the medical Royal colleges and professional societies.
